Layham Garden Centre is an
independent garden centre standing on a 10 acre site nestling in the heart of
the Kent countryside, in the village of Staple, near Canterbury.
The garden centre is firmly
rooted in the professional nursery trade, having been originally founded in 1990
by Mr Leo Wessel, an established nurseryman with over thirty years experience in
the wholesale nursery sector. The idea to develop a stand alone retail element
to Layham’s business was born out of a desire to create a garden centre which
took pride in its ability to deliver not only top quality stock, but also to
offer customers access to a valuable pool of unrivalled expert advice.
Since its inception, the
business has gone from strength to strength and now enjoys a healthy reputation
as a centre for excellence in terms of rose production, and is also highly
regarded for its extensive selection of top quality trees, shrubs, hedging,
perennials, bedding plants and garden furniture / gardening sundries.
In 1998, Mr Wessel’s daughter
Ellen and her partner took over the business. The garden centre continues to
specialize in rose production, taking advantage of the excellent growing
conditions afforded by the brick earth soil which provides a superb growing
medium for top quality roses. Today over 200 varieties are grown on site
alongside a number of species of conifer. Layham Garden Centre is widely
acknowledged as a natural source for professional plant advice and is renowned
for its commitment to exceptional customer service. The success of the business
is evidenced by the substantial number of clients who return to the garden
centre on a regular basis.
